The Perfect Black Lip

'Ello Everyone,

Since most people want that perfect red lip for the holidays, I thought I'd spice it up by making a post about the ever daring....black lipstick!

Black lipstick is my all time favorite. I love the way it looks, how white it makes my teeth appear, and let's be honest.....it looks pretty bad ass if someone can pull it off without making it look like a hot mess.

My way of wearing black lipstick, is like wearing red. I do not like the whole eyeliner look that teenagers wear around......I'd rather have that high fashion style to it!

So here's the steps I go through, and trust me, this stuff won't budge.

1.) Moisturize
Like with any lipstick, it looks bad with chapped lips. So moisturize them beforehand!
I recommend putting a lip balm on a little bit before you do the lipstick so it's all soaked in. If it still feels like there is too much on, just grab a tissue and lightly wipe it off.

This is what I use:

Maybelline New York Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm in Peppermint (About $3)
Plus an added bonus is that this stuff is SPF 20

2.) Line
Like when applying any normal shade of lipstick, it's great to use a lip liner before applying the lipstick. By doing this step the lipstick won't feather, and it'll stay on all day. For this, you could use a black eyeliner, but just make sure you wipe the tip of the pencil off before using it on your eyes again!

Black Lip Liner:
NYX Slim Lip Pencil in Black Berry (Around $3.50)

An Eyeliner:

Rimmel London Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil in Jet Black (About $3.00)

3.) Lipstick Time
Now here is where it can get complicated. On the market there are many different black lipsticks to choose from. There are both high end and low end options. I personally use a drug store brand, so that's what I will be recommending in this post. Lime Crime Cosmetics and Make-Up Forever also have black lipsticks on the market if you would prefer high end.

This lipstick applies great by itself, or with a lip brush. If you want precise edges, I'd use a lip liner/ angled eyeliner brush.

My Favorite Black Lipstick:
Wet n Wild Fergie Creme Lipstick
Wet n' Wild Fergie Creme Lipstick in Pagan Angel (Around $3.50)

This stuff is amazing! It's long wearing, creamy, and doesn't look like a black lipstick from a gothic inspired Halloween make-up kit!

4.) Matte/Gloss
This is where you can decide whether you want matte or glossy lips!

For a matte effect, blot lipstick with a tissue.

For gloss, this stuff is the bomb:

Rimmel London Stay Glossy Lip Gloss in Black Diva (Around $4.00)

5.) Clean-up
Now to finish, take your concealer brush and some concealer and clean up the edges of your lips. This will also help with feathering and makes for a crisp and high fashion looking lip. Set concealer with face powder or translucent powder with a fluffy eye shadow brush for more control.

    1. You're welcome :)
I was actually surprised when I tried it. It doesn't feel like Halloween make-up black, is opaque, and is quite moisturizing :)
