Twilight Eyes and Mauve Lips (Jeffree Star Cosmetics Androgyny Review)

Why hello :)

Sorry for the delay in this, but I thought I'd make a point to write a review on Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick in Androgyny since online Jeffree said that due to so much requesting, it will be coming out in February 2016 in the permanent line. When I had bought this from their holiday collection a few weeks ago, I had bought Androgyny along with Drug Lord, which is an opaque matte white liquid lipstick. As of right now Androgyny is sold out, but you can still get Drug Lord if you so wish.

As for the review, here's some background information. With all of Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour  Liquid Lipsticks you get 0.19 oz. for $18 each. (Keep in mind shipping is $6 flat unless you spend $100). Which comparing it to other high end liquid lipstick prices compared to ounces, that's a really decent price. All Jeffree Star Cosmetic's Velour Liquid lipsticks are Cruelty-Free, Vegan, and eye safe. On the website it also says that Androgyny is paraben and gluten free. The packaging of my version unlike the normal hot pink with gold accent came in white with rose gold accents for the holiday launch.

On the website it states that Androgyny is a "Sultry, plum mauve, matte and extremely addicting."....all of which I would say is true! I noticed that the swatch on the website really isn't true to color on my skin tone being that I'm so pale. It has a cool-undertone to it, and has a slight grey to brown undertone on me. All of which I love and appreciate. Though I will say if you're as pale as me, it will be much darker than it looks on your skin. My skin color is the same as Kat Von D's Lock-It Tattoo foundation in 42 if you are curious. If you like deep mauve lipsticks, or are looking for a dark but somewhat neutral winter shade, I would definitely recommend it. For me, this shade is a perfect winter color that I can wear to work. It's dark enough to fulfill my want to have a deep lip color, but also neutral enough to not look over powering (such as deep purples or reds can get).

As for the application and wear time of these, its the same as Redrum and Unicorn Blood for me. It's slightly patchy when applying, so you will just need to apply 2 coats or dab the excess on the brush onto your lips where the patchiness is. It also dries down in about 20 seconds or so for me, but beware it will smear if you don't let it dry down! On the website it says that these will last all day, are kiss proof, but will come off if you make-out. For me, these sometimes like to come off on the inner corners if you're drinking throughout the day. As for being kissing proof, out of all my Velour Liquid Lipsticks, this one transfers the least. It has yet to get on my boyfriends face ;) Though if  that happens its easy to touch-up without having to remove it all and having to reapply.

Overall Androgyny is definitely worth picking up if you have been looking to get it. With the price, you are paying for a high quality liquid lipstick that lasts all day and doesn't dry your lips out.

The look I have for you in both above pictures is a very dramatic look with an edgy, sexy, and sultry feel to it. With the eyes I went with a deep neutral smokey eye with a burgundy undertone to compliment the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Androgyny. Along with the eyes I went more heavy handed with my brows to balance out the eyes. I also went heavy handed with a deep contour with a mauve blush to hollow out my cheek bones to give a more sexy evil vibe. I hope you get some inspiration with this look :)

Bride of Frankenstein Stitched Face Makeup

Hello :)

This is a look I did for Halloween and a day before for a test run. A lot of inspiration from Rick Baker's 'Bride of Frankenstein' makeup he did with MAC Cosmetics a few years ago for the Halloween season. This lasted me all day with the use of minimal products. It took an additional 20 minutes on top of my make-up routine to do the stitches and shading. All this look consists of is your regular makeup (in a deadly fashion of course) lipliners in a nude pink and deep red, mauve toned blush, taupe eyeshadow for shading, and liquid latex for the the thread to adhear to the face.

Pumpkin Spice

Why Hello :)

It's been awhile since I've posted on here. Today's look is inspired by fall. I used a beautiful orange (Sugarpill's Flamepoint) amongst some neutral browns, red (Sugarpill's Love+), with a slight hint of purple to deepen the sut crease (Sugarpill's Poison Plum). As you guys have probably guessed, Sugarpill is one of my favorite makeup brands. Even though they don't have neutral eyeshadows in their collections, if you mix the eyeshadows with more muted colors such as taupes and basic neutrals, you can achieve a muted colorful look such as what I did here. I paired this look with my favorite liquid lipstick, Kat Von D's Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lovesick. It's a purpley mauve that has cool undertones. I typically use this lipstick and her Studded Kiss Lipstick in Lovecraft as my neutrals :)

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

So today's look I came up with this. Super simple 10 minute makeup really.
All it is, is a grey-toned smokey eye with winged eyeliner paired with a dark red lip (Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick - Unicorn Blood)

Seafoam Green Cut Crease

Hello :)

So today's look is something I normally don't gravitate to. That being said, here is a seafoam green look with a yellow inner corner. For a few days now I have really been wanting to use the eyeshadow 'Buttercupcake' from Sugarpill in a look. I also really wanted to do something with greens and blues. So this is what I came up with :)

Simple Smokey Eye - Gothic Glam

Hello :)

So one of my favorite looks of all time to wear is a black smokey eye. It's one of my staple looks that I always go back to time after time again. Not only does it last literally all day, but it also is very universal for every eye shape and color. You can also change the undertones from a neutral (what I have here) to a more cool tone or even warm tone by just changing up the transitional colors.
One thing I recommend with dark eyeshadow is wearing a base ontop of the eyeshadow primer and all over the area you want the black eyeshadow to be rich and pigmented.  I suggest keeping the base out of the crease, but bringing it rather close. This is what allows it to stay all day. I typically use Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Eyeliner in Black as my base for this look since it has an excellent wear time.

If you want to do a super fall cool-toned smokey eye like this, I recommend trying Sigma - Elysses and MAC - Sketch eyeshadows. They're very cool toned wine shades, and are very handy with a lot of other looks as well :)

Hope you enjoy!

Red Eyeliner - Look Inspired By Roses

Hello!

So today's look is inspired by roses. I used all pinks, purples, and reds.
After I heard that Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick's were eye safe and had seen a few people on Instagram use them as eyeliners, I had to try it. Though I know a lot of people have irritation to red pigments,I however dont'. It applied well and smoothly to the lids, lasted extremely well (I had this makeup on for over 20 hours and it never smeared or faded), and didn't flake off. Oddly I almost prefer Unicorn Blood as an eyeliner instead of on the lips since it just doesn't look good on me in my opinion.

I recommend trying this trick with the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks if you haven't already :)

Weight Loss

Hello :)

So here is something I've not talked much on my blog, but if you follow me on other sites you will know of. I have lost 40 lbs roughly since last November/December. It's a big accomplishment for me since it's something I've wanted to do for the last few years but wasn't motivated enough to do it. I gained a lot of weight due to stress and being extremely lazy my last year of high school and my first two years of college. I wasn't healthy, nor cared if I wasn't.

I'll admit, I didn't lose my weight for a good reason, nor really for myself. I liked a boy at the time I started questioning if I should, and we had a big fight and ended up not talking for a few months....but I wanted to better myself and look good. So I decided to drop as much weight as I felt I needed to. By no means do I recommend losing weight for my reasons, but I will say I don't regret any minute of it.

I first started going vegetarian to lose weight. I was eating too much meat compared to anything else and needed to throw more vegetables in my diet and was very aware of it. At this time I didn't eat hamburger, pork, anything. I just occassionally ate meat on pizza and only ate chicken. I haven't been really into eating meat for about 2 years now, but I did eat it everyday. So I decided to go cold turkey and completely cut it out of my diet. My family wasn't supportive what-so-ever about it and just kept trying to make me eat meat and made a big deal about it. I kept with it and just never caved to it, because I was doing it for myself and nobody else. The thing about going vegetarian in my family is that it forces me to cook for myself. It makes it so I have to make a small portioned meal, and have a choice to either eat healthy or unhealthy depending on myself. And if I am going to take 10 minutes making something unhealthy I can make something healthy in that time too.

I also cut down on my portion sizes and made sure I drank more water. I don't eat much everyday because I don't exercise nor really move around a lot. I typically eat 5 times a day but in super small portions throughout the day. A great thing about this is that I don't bloat as bad either, and just don't feel icky after eating like I used to. It also allows me to only eat when I am hungry, and not stick to the typical "Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner" schedule. I also make sure I drink a lot of water during the day. I keep a glass of water next to me or a water bottle if Im out and about. Even if I decide to have soda, I will have a glass of water next to me because chances are I will reach for the water out of habit faster than the soda.

To me losing weight is about making it a lifestyle. There's no reason you should have to starve yourself to be 'healthy'. Losing weight should be wanting to improve your health, and when you crash diet or starve yourself you are doing the opposite. I've been there with the crash diets and making sure I don't eat a lot so I don't get fat, but it's never worth it. At one point you cave and start eating a ton and you gain all the weight back. Its better to change your lifestyle than to do crash diets.

My two cents at least :)

Fall Grunge Look

Hello :)

So I don't know about everyone else, but I'm really wanting fall! With the leaves changing colors, cold nights, and hot cups of tea in the morning.....ah it sounds just wonderful. And don't forget about pumpkin spice everything.

This look is based around the Kat Von D Metal Crush Eyeshadow in Raw Powder. It's extremely metallic and a burnt rust/burgundy shade. In this look I paired it with a dark brown smokey eye and applied 'raw powder' onto the lid. For me I think this eyeshadow would look best with warm toned eyeshadows or browns and blacks.

One thing I'd like to mention about this eyeshadow is that if you apply it with a brush it's just a big pain in the a**. I really recommend applying it with your fingers so you can pack on the color and get it's true pigmentation. Other than that, it's a beautiful eyeshadow with a great formula. It's a perfect fall shade and is great for those smokey grunge looks we all love in fall :)

Hope you like it!

xoxo

Bittersweet Makeup

Hello :)

So lately I havent been feeling all too well and just overall just don't feel good. So I have been keeping with my faveorite makeup of all time. This look is one I've worn for over 4 years now, and I always go back to it. It looks great with any lip color (black, deep reds, berries, pinks, purples, etc.) and if you have green or hazel eyes, it'll make them pop like crazy!

One thing I like about this look is that it's both dramatic but very simple to do. Once you get the hang of it, it's easy to add different colors to it to make it a different look :)
---

In writing this is how I do it and what eyeshadows/products I use from my product list below:

1.) Apply an eyeshadow base all over your lid and up to the brow bone
(Too Faced Shadow Insurance)
2.) Sweep a eyeshadow color all over your lid and up to your brow bone that is the same color as your skin tone.
('Urban Decay Vice 3' - Truth with a mix of 'Too Faced Chocolate Bar' - White Chocolate)
3.) Start with a light brown or light grey eyeshadow and work it into the crease in outter V an dstart to create a soft base shape for your makeup
('Urban Decay Vice 3' - Undone and 'Too Faced Chocolate Bar' - Milk Chocolate)
4.) Add a medium brown or grey eyeshadow to the crease and outter V to start adding definition and building up the gradient for the darker colors to come.
(Urban Decay Vice 3 - DTF, Defy)
5.)  Now we will start to darken the crease and start to get our 'cut crease' like shape, but in a soft and settle way. Rock these colors back and forth in your crease and outer V. I slighting blend mine from the outer V to a bit on the lid to give it a more sultry look.
('Urban Decay Vice 3' - Defy.... Sigma - Elysees.....Too Faced Chocolate Bar - Triple Fudge)
6.) Now to slightly use a very little bit of these darker colors to the outer V and slightly blend it into the crease. Make sure to deposit the color initially on the outer V and bring it into the crease to blend. You don't want a super harsh crease but you want the extra darkness to make the look more sultry. Start with the browns and add just a touch of the black at the end.
(Too Faced Chocolate Bar - Triple Fudge.....Lorac Pro to Go - Espresso......Sugarpill - Bulletproof)
7.) Take a clean brush and blend all the edges to make sure everything is all blended. If your edges are harsh take a little bit of a shadow that is close to your skin color onto a blending brush and lightly blend the edges.
8.) Take a small brush or use your finger and apply a small bit of white eyeshadow to your inner corner. Also use a small brush and highlight under your brow bone with the same shadow.
(Sugarpill - Tako)
9.) Apply Eyeliner, Mascara, and Eyebrows :)

Blue and Purple Gradient Makeup

Hello :)

So this is a look I did the other day. While doing a previous look (Rainbow Sprinkles) I really liked the way that Sugarpill's Afterparty and Poison Plum blended into each other. I actually almost kept it that way instead of adding the other colors within that look. So I decided to recreate it with this, but added some of Sugarpill's loose pigment in 'Lumi' which let's be honest is probably one of the most gorgeous pigments out their.

Hope you enjoy :)

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick Review - Redrum and Unicorn Blood

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick Review
Redrum and Unicorn Blood

Let's be honest here, liquid lipsticks are all the rage right now. You see every brand coming out with them, and see them everywhere online.
There is a reason to this madness however, liquid lipsticks are amazing.
Its like applying a lipgloss, but having great pigmentation and typically a matte finish that lasts all day.

So with that being said, here's my review on Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipsticks in both Redrum and Unicorn Blood.

Before we start this review, I want to mention that I purchased both of these with my own money, and that my opinions are my own.

I will admit, I'm very fair skinned. I am about as fair or pale as someone can get. If you're not as fair as me they will probably look a lot different on you.
So please make point with these photos.

Redrum

Redrum is your typical classic red lipstick shade. When you think of a pin-up red, this would be it. Redrum is a gorgeous red that has a slight cool tone to make your teeth look whiter, which is great.
Though I will admit, it is not a very unique color, but it is a classic red that every girl needs in her collection.

Pros:
+ Very pigmented. You don't need a lot of product to cover your lips entirely
+ Formula when applying. It has a velvet feel to it. Super smooth
+ No lipliner needed
+ Doesn't feather
+ Makes your teeth look whiter
+ Dries down to a matte finish
+ Doesn't dry so fast that you can't work with it
+ Not splotchy or patchy when applying
+ Only need one coat, but 2 is preffered
+ Able to be touched up with no problems
+ Easily blends into other liquid lipsticks
+ Easy to remove without staining (with liquid eyemakeup remover)
+ Lasts as long as you want it to. Once its on, its on.
+ No scent or taste
+ A color that will compliment all skin tones

Cons:
+ Packaging applicator picks up too much product
+ Need to apply with a lip brush to be able to get precise application
+ Extremely drying after a few hours, and you will notice it
+ Clings to dry patches on the lips
+ Does transfer somewhat onto things (especially drinking from a glass or can)
+ If you eat any sort of greasy food it will come off the center

Unicorn Blood

Unicorn Blood is a deep red brown. It's your typical fall/winter dark red lip. Out of my collection it's more unique in color than a lot of my other dark reds. The more coats you apply of it, the darker it gets. At first it is a very dark red, but after the second coat you can see that it becomes more of a warm brown. It reminds me a lot of MAC Diva, but in a lot of ways it doesn't. If you like shades like Mac's Diva, you will probably fall in love with this.

Pros:
+ Very pigmented. You don't need a lot of product to cover your lips entirely
+ Unique color in the sense of the more coats you apply, the darker and more brown it gets
+ Formula when applying. It has a velvet feel to it. Super smooth
+ Doesn't feather
+ No lipliner needed
+ Dries down to a matte finish
+ Doesn't dry so fast that you can't work with it
+ Not splotchy or patchy when applying
+ Only need one coat, but 2 is preffered, 3 if you want it more brown
+ Able to be touched up with no problems
+ Easily blends into other liquid lipsticks
+ Easy to remove without staining (with liquid eyemakeup remover)
+ Lasts as long as you want it to. Once its on, its on.
+ No scent or taste

Cons:
+ Packaging applicator picks up too much product
+ Need to apply with a lip brush to be able to get precise application
+ Makes your teeth look slightly yellow if you have any sort of yellow staining
+ Extremely drying after a few hours, and you will notice it
+ Clings to dry patches on the lips
+ Does transfer somewhat onto things (especially drinking from a glass or can)
+ Comes off corners of mouth easily
+ If you eat any sort of greasy food it will come off the center

Ombre of Redrum and Unicorn Blood Together

Overall Review

Overall Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipsticks are amazing.....but you do have both pros and cons.

Pros:
+ Colors for everyone. Whether you want crazy unique shades or classic reds and nudes they have something for everyone.
+ Formula is on point for application. It has a velvety feel to it.
+ Easy to blend into other colors.
+ Doesn't dry right away, so you have some play time with it
+ Not streaky or patchy
+ Best price to ounces ratio on the market
+ Small Brand
+ Vegan/ Cruelty Free
+ Can reapply without having to remove everything first
+ Easy to remove with an oil based makeup remover
+ Lasts all day, or as long as you want them too. Once its on its on
+ No lipliner needed
+ Doesn't feather
+ Packaging 'clicks' into place so you know its closed.
+ No scent or taste

Cons:
+ Packaging. Super bulky and big
+ Applicator is too big and picks up way too much product to the point its wasteful to apply that much. You will have to use a lip brush if your lips are somewhat small.
+ When using the applicator it's extremely messy and doesn't give a precise line or application due to the size.
+ Very drying overtime. And if you're anything like me, it'll bother you.
+ If your lips are dry or cracked, it will make it very obvious
+ Can only buy online
+ Cannot eat greasy food
+ Transfers slightly, but you cannot notice it on the lips

---------------------

Would I recommend both Redrum and Unicorn Blood?

I recommend them in the sense if you want to try them, you should. Are they the best liquid lipstick I've ever used? No, but they aren't the worst either. They have very unique colors, are vegan, and cruelty free. The thing about these is that you really have to watch what you do since they do transfer (not noticable on the lips, but will get on things) and come off with greasy food. Which is fixable by reapplying. Another thing I don't like is the applicator, it's so big compared to my lips that I have to use a lip brush to apply the product. This makes it so it's not a swipe and go product for me, but if you have bigger lips than me you might like the applicator. The applicator also grabs way to much product due to the unique design of it. A thing about these that I like is that the formula isn't patchy or streaky. It's very smooth, pigmented, and easy to apply with a lip brush. You need very little to cover your lips entirely, and have a bit of play time to do some ombre lips or other creative looks. You don't necessarily even need two coats for the true color. The one thing I hate about the formula is after about 5 hours or so it just feels very drying. I start noticing it after this time and can feel it on my lips. Though because it is a liquid lipstick that dries down to a matte finish, this is to be expected. Another thing that is great about these is that you get a lot of product for the amount you spend. If you compare these to other brands, you get more 'bang for your buck' in the sense you pay less for more ounces/product.

I recommend trying these out if you haven't. They are definitely worth trying.

If you have any questions, leave them below and I'll be sure to answer :)

Rainbow Sprinkles

Hello my lovelies :)

So with this look I wanted to try something out of the box for me personally....and that is anything rainbow. Typically when I do makeup, I like it a bit dark, dramatic, and smokey. Though because it's my favorite style, it's been getting me into a creative rut.

So I came up with this rainbow look for fun! Used all Sugarpill Cosmetics eyeshaodws from all the classic quad palettes.

To keep things simple and to tie the look together, I opted for a mauve/nude lip. It added a bit of color, but also was muted enough to not overpower the eyes (which I wasn't looking to do)
I also filled in my eyebrows with a dark espresso shade from the Lorac Pro to Go palette to frame the brighter colors better. Also went with a light contour and highlight to add some extra definition.

Hope you enjoy :)

Illuminated

Hello :)

This look was a little different than I normally do. Typically I try to keep the eyes or lips the darker and more main focus, but I wanted to mix it up today. One of my favorite blue eyeshadows is this gorgeous color in the Urban Decay Vice 3 called 'Freeze'. Its very shimmery and has a very beautiful reflect, especially if its on a black base.

I saw a look on Instagram that inspired this in a way. She had this gorgeous dark red lip with a blue eyeshadow dusted on top to give the matte lipstick more dimension. But since I was going out I wanted to keep things a bit more muted so I decided to opt for the blue eyeshadow instead of the blue pigment on the lips.

I'll be writing a review soon on the Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipsticks in the shades 'Redrum' and 'Unicorn Blood' in the next few days.

(This photo is true to color if you're curious about 'Unicorn Blood' and its shade on fair skin)

Lovesick

Hello my lovelies :)

So while I was in New York City on vacation I got a few thngs at Sephora. The first item being the Too Faced Primed and Poreless Face Primer. I've used this a few times now and can say it really helps my foundation stay matte all day(though I also use a matteifying setting spray). I've also noticed it helps make my dry skin not as visible through my foundation. I'm not too sure if I would repurchase it again since I have only tried it with the Maybelline Fit Me! foundation, but for right now I like the results it gives me.

The second item I purchased was Kat Von D's Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lovesick. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this liquid lipstick. First off, let's start with the packaging. I'm really digging the sleek and slim design. Its about the size of a pen (but a bit bigger of course) and isn't bulky in my makeup bag. Another thing that I really like is the applicator. Comparing it to the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams and Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick's, it is the easiest to apply and get a precise and smooth application. The doe foot applicator is big enough to where you dont have to keep on going back and forth, but it's small enough to give you precise lines on the cupids bow and inner corners. Even with the applicator itself being a bit long (due to the long slim design of the packaging) its still really easy to use. Formula wise, it's not too thick or thin, and dries down rather quickly. It also doesn't transfer, which is a big bonus for me since I like drinking water and soda all day. As far as lasting power, it lasted me until I took it off at the end of the day. This included being at work for over 6 hours and talking all day, eating a veggie burger, drinking soda/water, and wearing it for over 12 hours in total. If you're on the fence about buying it, and love cool toned mauve's, I'd recommend it in a heartbeat. It is honestly my new go-to 'ride or die' lippie.

xoxo

Red Ombre Pin-Up

Hello my lovelies :)

Today's make-up was inspired by the classic pin-up's but as always, I like to darken it up. So with that being said, I used darker shades to make a slight cut crease, but stuck to the classic look of matte eyeshadows.
To also stick with the classic look, I paired it with a classic red lip, but with an ombre gradient to make it  have a more modern twist.
Normally I'm not able to make a decent gradient ombre with lipsticks, but I tried using the Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipsticks in Redrum and Unicorn Blood. And it turned out better than I had expected since they are fast drying and have a matte finish.
What I did was use a lip brush (the OCC lipbrush that comes with liptars) and outlined my lips in Unicorn Blood and slighting brought it in. I than applied Redrum in the middle and with using the lip brush I blended it out slightly. Then to make sure I had a nice gradient and to make sure the edges were more crisp, I used a little bit more of Unicorn Blood on the lipbrush.
