Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick Review - Redrum and Unicorn Blood

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick Review
Redrum and Unicorn Blood

Let's be honest here, liquid lipsticks are all the rage right now. You see every brand coming out with them, and see them everywhere online.
There is a reason to this madness however, liquid lipsticks are amazing.
Its like applying a lipgloss, but having great pigmentation and typically a matte finish that lasts all day.

So with that being said, here's my review on Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipsticks in both Redrum and Unicorn Blood.

Before we start this review, I want to mention that I purchased both of these with my own money, and that my opinions are my own.

I will admit, I'm very fair skinned. I am about as fair or pale as someone can get. If you're not as fair as me they will probably look a lot different on you.
So please make point with these photos.

Redrum

Redrum is your typical classic red lipstick shade. When you think of a pin-up red, this would be it. Redrum is a gorgeous red that has a slight cool tone to make your teeth look whiter, which is great.
Though I will admit, it is not a very unique color, but it is a classic red that every girl needs in her collection.

Pros:
+ Very pigmented. You don't need a lot of product to cover your lips entirely
+ Formula when applying. It has a velvet feel to it. Super smooth
+ No lipliner needed
+ Doesn't feather
+ Makes your teeth look whiter
+ Dries down to a matte finish
+ Doesn't dry so fast that you can't work with it
+ Not splotchy or patchy when applying
+ Only need one coat, but 2 is preffered
+ Able to be touched up with no problems
+ Easily blends into other liquid lipsticks
+ Easy to remove without staining (with liquid eyemakeup remover)
+ Lasts as long as you want it to. Once its on, its on.
+ No scent or taste
+ A color that will compliment all skin tones

Cons:
+ Packaging applicator picks up too much product
+ Need to apply with a lip brush to be able to get precise application
+ Extremely drying after a few hours, and you will notice it
+ Clings to dry patches on the lips
+ Does transfer somewhat onto things (especially drinking from a glass or can)
+ If you eat any sort of greasy food it will come off the center

Unicorn Blood

Unicorn Blood is a deep red brown. It's your typical fall/winter dark red lip. Out of my collection it's more unique in color than a lot of my other dark reds. The more coats you apply of it, the darker it gets. At first it is a very dark red, but after the second coat you can see that it becomes more of a warm brown. It reminds me a lot of MAC Diva, but in a lot of ways it doesn't. If you like shades like Mac's Diva, you will probably fall in love with this.

Pros:
+ Very pigmented. You don't need a lot of product to cover your lips entirely
+ Unique color in the sense of the more coats you apply, the darker and more brown it gets
+ Formula when applying. It has a velvet feel to it. Super smooth
+ Doesn't feather
+ No lipliner needed
+ Dries down to a matte finish
+ Doesn't dry so fast that you can't work with it
+ Not splotchy or patchy when applying
+ Only need one coat, but 2 is preffered, 3 if you want it more brown
+ Able to be touched up with no problems
+ Easily blends into other liquid lipsticks
+ Easy to remove without staining (with liquid eyemakeup remover)
+ Lasts as long as you want it to. Once its on, its on.
+ No scent or taste

Cons:
+ Packaging applicator picks up too much product
+ Need to apply with a lip brush to be able to get precise application
+ Makes your teeth look slightly yellow if you have any sort of yellow staining
+ Extremely drying after a few hours, and you will notice it
+ Clings to dry patches on the lips
+ Does transfer somewhat onto things (especially drinking from a glass or can)
+ Comes off corners of mouth easily
+ If you eat any sort of greasy food it will come off the center

Ombre of Redrum and Unicorn Blood Together

Overall Review

Overall Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipsticks are amazing.....but you do have both pros and cons.

Pros:
+ Colors for everyone. Whether you want crazy unique shades or classic reds and nudes they have something for everyone.
+ Formula is on point for application. It has a velvety feel to it.
+ Easy to blend into other colors.
+ Doesn't dry right away, so you have some play time with it
+ Not streaky or patchy
+ Best price to ounces ratio on the market
+ Small Brand
+ Vegan/ Cruelty Free
+ Can reapply without having to remove everything first
+ Easy to remove with an oil based makeup remover
+ Lasts all day, or as long as you want them too. Once its on its on
+ No lipliner needed
+ Doesn't feather
+ Packaging 'clicks' into place so you know its closed.
+ No scent or taste

Cons:
+ Packaging. Super bulky and big
+ Applicator is too big and picks up way too much product to the point its wasteful to apply that much. You will have to use a lip brush if your lips are somewhat small.
+ When using the applicator it's extremely messy and doesn't give a precise line or application due to the size.
+ Very drying overtime. And if you're anything like me, it'll bother you.
+ If your lips are dry or cracked, it will make it very obvious
+ Can only buy online
+ Cannot eat greasy food
+ Transfers slightly, but you cannot notice it on the lips

Would I recommend both Redrum and Unicorn Blood?

I recommend them in the sense if you want to try them, you should. Are they the best liquid lipstick I've ever used? No, but they aren't the worst either. They have very unique colors, are vegan, and cruelty free. The thing about these is that you really have to watch what you do since they do transfer (not noticable on the lips, but will get on things) and come off with greasy food. Which is fixable by reapplying. Another thing I don't like is the applicator, it's so big compared to my lips that I have to use a lip brush to apply the product. This makes it so it's not a swipe and go product for me, but if you have bigger lips than me you might like the applicator. The applicator also grabs way to much product due to the unique design of it. A thing about these that I like is that the formula isn't patchy or streaky. It's very smooth, pigmented, and easy to apply with a lip brush. You need very little to cover your lips entirely, and have a bit of play time to do some ombre lips or other creative looks. You don't necessarily even need two coats for the true color. The one thing I hate about the formula is after about 5 hours or so it just feels very drying. I start noticing it after this time and can feel it on my lips. Though because it is a liquid lipstick that dries down to a matte finish, this is to be expected. Another thing that is great about these is that you get a lot of product for the amount you spend. If you compare these to other brands, you get more 'bang for your buck' in the sense you pay less for more ounces/product.

I recommend trying these out if you haven't. They are definitely worth trying.

If you have any questions, leave them below and I'll be sure to answer :)
